    About Me

I currently work full time as an architectural designer for a residential design build firm but I am always expanding into new areas.  In addition to Illustration, architecture, graphic design and painting, I am also an award winning filmmaker.

A little bit about my process.

Most of my work is concept driven.  The aesthetics or style comes a short second as a way to enhance the original idea.   For a few years I have been participating in "Illustration Friday", an online challenge where a new word is selected each week and artists are invited to present their take on the on the word.  I love the process because it allows me to rack my brain with each new word, trying to come up with personal stories, political ideas, or just random jokes.  Once I have an idea, I explore through small thumbnail drawings different ways of composing the image to best express the idea.  This process is probably best described through the example shown here

Much like developing your own signature takes time and evolves naturally, I have witnessed my own style emerge and evolve over time.  I seem to be drawn to a limited palate, hand drawn and somewhat loose lines, with an emphasis on white space as the subject rather than the background.  Being an architect working on residential remodels, I've learned not to force my style where it doesn't belong. I try to let the concept speak for itself.  I have also learned to follow through with a design while still having unexpected details to add a punch of interest.  Consistancy and contrast.  Its a seeming contradiction I've learned to love.
